I have fallen in love. I checked out Buxton Munch based on word of mouth and Yelp and it was worth every penny. The food is local, fresh and simple. The meal was so good, that we ordered an extra portion to take home for dinner:) The only con is that it is open for lunch on Monday – Saturday from 11-4. No dinners.
We ordered fish tacos (made with rockfish caught that day), a crabcake with avocado wrap, chips & salsa and a smoothie. Hands down, the fish tacos were incredible. You can get them grilled, cajun or fried – we opted for grilled. You assemble them yourself like a fajita. The portion was tremendous and enough for two people. Because I have a deep and abiding love for salsa, I added some (from the chips and salsa) to my tortilla, as well.
Yep, that is just ONE portion.
The crabcake/avocado wrap was a close second. It was also a huge portion. I added some of the sauce from the fish tacos to the wrap rather than tartar sauce and that was a delicious move.
The smoothies are made of only fruit, yogurt and honey. We ordered the strawberry – It was huge and not too sweet (which I prefer). On a side note, the chips and salsa were a bit strange. Rather than conventional chips, the chips were large and almost soft. They just weren’t my style.
The atmosphere is great – bright colors, friendly service, reggae playing on the radio. It does serve some beer (mostly domestic and one or two microbrews) and limited wine, too.
